I started piano lessons with Miss Pechtold when I was 7 in 1949. I do not remember being driven to my lessons, what I practiced, or much about the lessons. What I do remember is this. In the early 1950’s my father was working for an accounting firm. Because of this he was away from home a lot during tax season. Back then tax season was during January, February and March and ended March 15th – the Ides of March. So my mother and I would walk to the lesson. The distance was about one mile. To make it even more enjoyable my mother and I would skip along the way. I know this is not much but it was part o of my growing up.
